A flow gauge is essentially another term or perhaps an old - fashioned term for a flow meter. Flow gauges were historically rugged analogue devices with a familiar easy to read pointer and dial gauge but as devices evolved there have been many uses of different terminology.
A flow gauge, flow meter, flow transmitter, flow switch are all part of the same system and involve similar measurements and calibration procedures. These instruments are used to measure linear, nonlinear, mass, or volumetric flow rate of a liquid or a gas so there are many different types, some of which are shown below:
Like all other measurement devices flow gauges can drift over time, so it is important to get them checked at least once a year, perhaps more if they are being heavily used.
