Flow transducers, also known as flow transmitters, are sensors that are used to measure the flow rate (velocity) of a gas or liquid in a particular fitting or fixture. These instruments are used heavily in industrial processes as there is a regular requirement to determine the flow velocity of both air and liquid to ensure equipment, utility supplies and manufacturing processes are working as they should be.
Flow transducers use many different sensors and methods to measure this flow rate, each with its own advantage, disadvantage, and technical specification. These devices are therefore quite complex in construction and make up a larger flow rate reporting system consisting of a primary medium connection device, transducer, and transmitter. The transmitter is last part of the process in that it takes the signal from the transducer and sends it to a flow meter or control panel to be analysed.
