According to the British Lung Foundation a nebuliser is defined as a machine that helps you breathe in a medicine as a mist through a mask or mouthpiece. Nebulisers use oxygen, compressed air, or ultrasonic power to break up a liquid drug to help clear a patient’s airways. Nebulisers work by means of a pump that regulates pressure and flow of the mist to the patient, nebuliser testers are therefore portable and easy-to-use devices that allows the user to quickly check the performance of the pump by reporting values for flow and pressure rate.
The pressure and flow rates these devices simulate are quite low level, so it is important they are checked at regular intervals by suitable test equipment to ascertain performance against manufacturer specification. Many technicians now make their own nebuliser test rigs consisting of a pressure gauge and flow meter, although there are still some manufacturers with off the shelf options available.
Calibrationhouse has the facility to calibrate nebuliser testers of all makes and designs at its County Durham based laboratory. Please contact us to discuss your individual requirements particularly if you have constructed your own nebuliser test rig.
