The 18th Edition refers to the latest British Standards BS 7671:2018 Requirements for Electrical Installations, IET Wiring Regulations. These regulations are also colloquially known in the electrical contracting industry as simply “wiring regs” or “18th edition” and are applicable to the design, erection and verification of electrical installations, plus additions and alterations to existing installations. Knowledge and adherence to these regulations is therefore essential for all professionals working in the electrotechnical engineering services industry.
In terms of calibration, 18th edition calibration refers to the verification of multi-function test instruments that are designed specifically to test, troubleshoot and maintain electrical installations in accordance with these regulations. Modern 18th edition multi-function testers encompass a wide range of parameters, such as earth fault loop impedance, rcd checks, mains polarity checks all designed to ensure that fixed wiring has been properly installed in a commercial, domestic, or industrial property in adherence with standards outlined in the 18th edition.
A multi-function tester, often shortened to MFT, is a standard piece of kit for any electrician with many available from leading worldwide manufacturers of test and measurement equipment. The majority of manufacturers advise these devices are calibrated at least once a year with documented user checks between annual calibration by an approved facility.
Calibrationhouse understands the importance of these tools to users and therefore offers a flexible multifunction tester calibration service onsite at customer locations, or a rapid turnaround service at our lab. Pricing is competitive and UKAS level certification is available.
Our team of expert technicians are on hand to help you with any queries you have about calibration, servicing or repair.
