Resistance tester is quite a generic term with more specific terms such as insulation resistance tester, megohmmeter or simply an ohmmeter used across industry. Resistance testers are instruments that detect electrical defects by measuring the resistance of electrical components, cables and installations. These are standalone portable devices, but different levels of resistance measurement are included in many modern multimeters, multifunction testers, pat testers, solar installation testers and flash testers as a key measurement for both electrical safety and performance.
Resistance testers are usually straight forward handheld devices, but more advanced versions can be portable with a transport handle or bench mounted. Usually referred to in the industry as insulation resistance or IR testers, many of the leading test and measurement brands including Fluke, RS Components, Chauvin Arnoux, Keysight Technologies etc have these devices among their product portfolios.
